Beginner-Friendly, Easy to Play
This D Kurd model includes an extra note for greater versatility than standard beginner handpans. The layout is intuitive, the sustain is long and warm, and each note is precisely tuned for clear, resonant sound — making it easy to explore melodies even with no prior music experience.
Nitrided Steel Construction
Crafted from nitrided steel, this Riza Handpan offers a balanced, focused tone with excellent note separation and controlled sustain. The nitriding process hardens the surface of the steel, improving tuning stability, durability, and resistance to wear.
Nitrided handpans are known for their clean articulation and reliable performance, making them especially well-suited for beginners who want a responsive instrument that holds its tuning over time.
This handpan delivers excellent sound quality, ease of play, and dependable tuning — making it one of the best beginner handpans in Australia at this price point.
432Hz vs 440Hz — Choose Your Tuning
| Tuning | Best For | Why Choose This |
|---|---|---|
| 440Hz (Standard Tuning) |
• Most beginners • Following online tutorials • Playing with other instruments |
The global standard used worldwide. If you’re unsure which to choose, go with 440Hz — it matches standard music, lessons, and collaborations. |
| 432Hz (Soft, Healing Tone) |
• Sound healing • Meditation • Gentle solo play |
Slightly softer and warmer in feel, often preferred for relaxation and mindful solo playing. |
Quick tip: If you’re not sure which tuning to choose, go with 440Hz. It’s the simplest and most versatile option for beginners.
Nitrided Steel vs Stainless Steel — How to Choose
If you’re deciding between nitrided steel and stainless steel, think less about “which is better” and more about how you like to play and listen. Nitrided steel has a slightly shorter sustain and a more percussive, articulated sound — if you enjoy clear attacks, rhythmic playing, or often play outdoors or in hot environments, the harder nitrided surface holds up very well. Stainless steel, on the other hand, offers a longer, smoother sustain with a more flowing, meditative feel, and it’s extremely easy to care for — it’s highly resistant to rust and usually needs little to no maintenance.
Both materials used in our handpans receive special surface treatments, so you don’t need to worry too much about rust or upkeep. Stainless steel is the most carefree, while nitrided steel may benefit from occasional oiling and wipe-downs. In the end, many players simply choose based on the sound character they’re drawn to and the colour that resonates with them most — both options are durable, stable, and designed for everyday enjoyment.
