Compact Yet Powerful

Kalimbas are pre-tuned in C pentatonic, and you can play it right away when you receive the order. However, the 8 keys kalimba scale is slightly different from other models.

The default scale from left to right is A E C G A D G C, the pentatonic scale. It is the sound on a piano when you only play black keys. The best thing about this scale is that it will sound like a beautiful oriental song no matter how you play. Therefore, without any music background, you can improvise like a pro.

**It's an excellent scale for all ages, relaxing and balanced, perfect for meditation. However, the pentatonic scale's repertoire is relatively limited compared to other scales. So if your main focus is not improv or meditation, and you want to play many famous pieces, it might be better to choose a different model. Or you can change the tuning for the entire kalimba to suit the specific piece you want to play.

Generally speaking, the flat-board Kalimba produces bright and clear tones, standing out as the clearest sounding among different types. However, the hollow-body Kalimba is the most popular type due to its warm tone and long sustain.

The hollow design provides a unique "wah-wah" sound effect when you move your fingers around the soundhole in the middle, making it a delight to play.

On the other hand, the Acrylic Kalimba delivers a very clear tone as well. However, acrylic, as a material, doesn't vibrate as much as wood, meaning the sound produced by the Acrylic Kalimba is quieter compared to the wooden one.

As for the influence of wood type on the tone, it's not substantial but still noticeable. Importantly, the shape of the Kalimba has a more significant impact on the sound than the type of wood used.
